This office is tasked with the coordination, training and awareness rising on ozone depleting substances. It was established to implement provisions of the Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the Ozone layer It also provides permits to individuals and companies who wish to import these substances. The ministry has continued with the implementation of the ozone depleting substances (ODS) phase out programme through the ozone office.
The activities involve training of various stakeholders on the use of sustainable alternatives. The project is being implemented through co financing from GTZ a Germandevelopment agency.The ministry managed to meet the 2010 deadline for total phase out of the use ofChlorofluorocarbons (CFC) in refrigeration in Zimbabwe Significant reduction(about 95%) in the use of Methyl Bromide (ozone depleting substances) ahead of the 2015 Montreal protocol deadline.
